Photoshop layers questions please help?

I created a lineart just like the video in this link

But i seem him going over lines when he paints, I understand how layers overlap things but I dont understand if I have to change the mode of the layers or reverse the order of the layers, im confused. Hes not using photoshop but its similar.

If the problem is what I think it is, try setting the line art layer to “multiply”.

(Also, be sure the line art layer is on top.)
